About our products:
When we began teaching we traced letters and drew characters for bulletin boards. We spent our evenings cutting and gluing game pieces, making word cards and covering them with clear contact paper so they would last. We planned centers, experimented with different ways to manage them and agonized about what to put in them. Was teaching really meant to be a 24 hour job?
Later in our teaching careers we purchased and stockpiled a voluminous amount of resource books and make-‘n-take publications. We copied, colored, cut and made even more activities for our students. But nothing seemed to fit our needs or the needs of the students. Sound familiar? Another frustration we encountered was that materials were created for K-3, or even more frustrating, for K-6. We’d end up purchasing a book and finding just 2 or 3 ideas that would work for Kindergarten students. If we used any others we’d have to adapt, change and revamp the activity . . . more time, even more work!
Where were the resources specifically geared toward Kindergarten?
Perhaps you can relate to how we felt when our wonderful, creative activity (which took us 5 hours to make) took students less than 2 minutes to complete before discarding it and moving on to something else. We had to ask ourselves if all the time we were spending was even translating into meaningful learning experiences for children.
We knew there must be a better and easier way to provide worthwhile activities that engage and challenge students without the extensive time and effort we were expending - not to mention the cost of materials, idea books and loss of personal time.
