Distinguishing Between Pictures, Letters and Words

Use this newsworthy idea in your Literacy Station this week.  Set out sheets of the daily newspaper along with fine tip markers in red, blue and green. Students look through the newspaper pages and circle pictures in red, letters in blue and words in green. This could also be a group activity by hanging posters on the wall and having students look through magazines or newspapers, cutting and gluing pictures on one poster, letters on another and words on a third.
